No - it's in the masters and mates certificates collection. Three entries - b Swansea 30 Dec 1844
1875 - passes his second mate exam in Liverpool. Address is 1 King St, Swansea
1877 - becomes a first mate. Same address. In between the two periods has been working on the Battle Axe out of Swansea (possible a barque - definitely a sailing ship as the entry refers to the type of rig)
1893 - as previously posted . Definitely the same chap - same dob and the number of the lost certificate matches that issued in 1875. Appears to have been working as a second mate in the precious two years, on a steam ship out of Sunderland (called Haworth Castle, I think) and then from Cardiff (SS Saxon Bruton). The SS Catho appears to have stranded on its way to Genoa
BATTLE AXE official number 65545 Was a Swansea registered Barque. Her 1877 Crew Agreements appear to have been lost or destroyed.
