Nearby;
William Hole, 45, Farmer

Just to make clear that William (15) and John (10) are described as servants 
There is also a FORD family next door.

Yes, I agree - definitely HOLE. 

There is a Richard and Mary FORD at "Trehane" Lesnewth in 1841:

and at Treneglos in 1851:

They have a child Susannah baptised at St Breward 15 Nov 1807

A possibility for Susan FORD, though I can't see a marriage to John HOLE

Trying to get my head around this;

John Holes 1893 NZ Death Cert his Mother is Susan FORD
We cant find a Marriage.
I cant seem to find any birth reg Gro Index post 1837 with Mothers mn Ford


Sorry I made a couple of mistakes when trying to Correct this;

John HOLE to Sarah MARTYN

Should be WILLIAM Hole to Sarah MARTYN

On other posting which I cant correct, ignore  " the should be WILLIAM Hole" That relates to the Marriage above.


The 1844 Samuel Hall birth reg, Mothers mn Trick is the wrong year for Saml on 1851 Census (born c 1848)

Now to confuse things more Susan is born c 1799 in 1861 Census;
Susan Hale, 62, Head, Widow, Pauper, born Langhill***
Richard Hale, 17, Son, Unm, Carter, born Advent** (1844)
Image is HOLE.

Now can someone check that Census please does it say Poughill?

If so there is a Susanna TRICK christened there 20 June 1802 to CHARLES/ELIZABETH

So are we looking at 2 couples here named John/Susan Hole or variants?

I loved this that you wrote;
Thomas Hall - My great Grandfather arrived in Cambridge NZ, Aged 10  with all the rest of the Hall /Hole family .
The Kingdon family arrived at the same with 6 unmarried daughters - every single man in town lined the river bank to greet them - Along with Elizabeth 2 -married daughters followed.

I could actually imagine that scene.

Did you live in Cambridge?
I am from Hamilton and My Uncle Frank Edge had the Barbers Shop there for many years.

I also have a connection to the Karls.

Yes - I remember clearly some of my first haircuts - sitting on a box on top of one of Frank Edge's huge barber chairs - can still see it and smell the haircream !!

Sorry to go off track here Tommo50 but are there any Edge family members still living in Cambridge area?

Franks wife Madge (Margaret) was my Fathers sister.
They were orphaned young and I think the Karl family brought up my Father.

Anyhow I would love to contact any Edges that are still around of you know any.

Gary Edge is still on St Kilda Rd Cambridge I believe . He has a horse agistment farm. My Grandfather used to hand out the saddle cloth's at Te Rapa races 1960's- Gary was always his favourite jockey .
