I continued looking through link you sent re National Archives and found this re SAS diary mentions killings of SAS personnel

Those events took place in 1943 I think and the trials would have been in 1947/48

Thanks good to eliminate that

Thanks everyone,
I now know I should look at the war diary of 311 Transit Camp (ref WO 170/7293)
This is where Cecil returned to (3/8/45), after being home on leave, to await being demobbed. Whilst there he sustained wounds from a grenade thrown by an Italian which was recorded as an accident.
He died in 64 General Hospital on 17/10/45

There was a Court of Inquiry held on 13/10/45 at 311 Transit Camp but service record only has a few words which I've already said. It doesn't say when the accident occurred.

I wonder how long awaiting being demobbed should have taken normally?
How long would it take to arrange an inquiry after an accident?
Family always believed he was only just returned when it happened.
The war diary covers July end of Dec which is probably a lot to ask of someone to look through on my behalf. It's not a digitised diary either.

If a court of enquiry was held, there must be some paperwork somewhere.  My great uncle was found drowned in France after the first world war and a court of enquiry was held.  I have copies of the paperwork (complete with singe marks from the fire/bombing) and it goes into great detail with witness statements etc.  They never did get to the cause of it but at least they investigated quite thoroughly and that was years before your incident.

That's very interesting. Where did you get your copies of the inquiry from? Were they sent with his service record or did you have to look elsewhere for them. Cecil's record doesn't say too much about it.
Thanks

She did find them on Ancestry.  It was a while ago and as far as she can remember she just searched for his records and that was with them.  I suppose there could be a time limit before these things are seen or the second war and its aftermath maybe different?

Good luck.
