Hello to you all,
If it is ok with you all I am going to leave this thread open for a little while longer.  There has been such a positive response and it would be a shame to close it in case any new eyes see it.
Don't worry Andrea, if there is no new contact for a couple of days I will do the necessary or be guided by you.
However, I will start a new thread for the elusive William Burnett.  I'm not sure how to link them but I will go to the FAQ section and work it out.
Many thanks to you all once again.

If you do start a new thread about William do please include link it to this one, since the summary JAP provided is invaluable.

...

Sarah, For future reference ...
The reason the link doesn't work is because you 'coloured' it blue.
A URL will automatically turn blue - you don't need to colour it.  And if you do, it won't work.  :'(

I think that JenB and I might have come across this before when another RootsChatter did the same thing?

Best regards,

JAP

Not burning the midnight oil, rather just living in South Texas.

I think I have now found my grandad's birth record....just waiting for the birth certificate. I believe his name that he was known as was his middle name rather than his first name. :)
Ferguson, Stockton-on-Tees
Hollinshead, Stafford/Guisborough
Pratt, Berwick/Newcastle-upon-Tyne
McDonald, Teesdale
Charlton, Hexham
Carlyle, Hexham/Annan Dumfries

Thank you all for your help.

Even though I don't have the answers to this topic....I don't think I ever will, I am going to mark it as completed.
Thank you all for the time and effort you have put in trying to help me solve this enigma. :'(

Cheers
