death in 1915
« on: Sunday 02 September 07 11:00 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help but with out a name I am not sure if it will be possible.

but I have seen what roots chat members can do  even what seems impossible you have somehow archived  it    :) :)

all I can give you is the  background      In WW1 during the Zeppelin raids over North East
On the night of the 5/6 April 1915 A Zeppelin flew over the village of Eldon  Bishop Auckland  and an incendiary was dropped on the last house in  Close House Eldon  and killed a young boy who lived there with his family. what I am trying to find is the name of the family. this is not  easy as the papers of that time did not always  give out names of the civilians killed during war time due to moral
I have  been lucky if there was an inquest   my interest in Zeppelin raids stated with Palmer's ship yards  in Jarrow and little mystery's keep cropping up like this one  :)

It helps when you hit a brick wall with the old family tree and it is amazing what you can find out about your family when you are looking for something else  :) :)

I found this on Google.  Not sure if it's the incident you are looking for but sounds like it might be.  Family name is Moyle.  (Sorry - didn't realise that I couldn't copy and pastle from Google).

It doesn't mention the street or house name, but says a child was killed first week of April, 1915 in Bishop Auckland.  Child's father's name was William Moyle.

If you Google.....Zeppelin+Bishop Auckland+1915........you will find the article on the first result that comes up if you scroll about halfway down the page.

UPDATE - actually Close House IS mentioned a bit further down.

Unfortunately I can't find a death on ancestry that matches with this information.

5/6 Apr 1916 Wed/Thu. The L16 crossed the coast near Blackhall Rocks Then she headed east and dropped 27 bombs on collieries immediately south-east of Bishop Auckland where more houses were damaged, a child killed, and a woman and 2 children injured. http://www.bpears.org.uk/Misc/War_NE/w_section_08.html

I have confirmed the date from "The Times" digital archive. One child was killed.
