« on: Sunday 15 May 05 12:44 BST (UK) »

I have found my Richards family on the 1861 census
1861 England Census

1861 England Census index

George Ledding 1855  Aylburton Stepson  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Louiza J Ledding 1854  Aylburton Stepdaughter  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Elizabeth Richard 1858  Lydney Granddaughter  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Thomas Richard 1802  Alvington Brother  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Emily Richards 1841  Aylburton Daughter  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Ester Richards 1832  Coleford Wife  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Hannah Richards 1860  Lydney Daughter  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Oliver Richards 1812  Alvington Head  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Oliver Richards 1851  Lydney Son  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Robert Richards 1849  Lydney Son  Lydney  Gloucestershire
Thomas Richards 1847  Lydney Son  Lydney  Gloucestershire

Does anybody have the Ledding or Richards family on the 1841 0r 1851 censuses. Ester must have married twice.

many thanks

Hi Rachel!

Here is the family of Oliver Richards from Gordon Beavington's transcripts
of the 1851 Census for Gloucestershire.

Census Place:     Parish of Lydney
PRO Ref No:        HO 107/2443

Oliver Richards        39       Farm Bailiff     Alvington
Eliza Richards          39                          Awre
Richard Richards      18       Ag Lab          Awre
Alfred Richards        15       Ag Lab          Aylburton
Emma Richards        10       Scholar         Aylburton
Joseph Richards        7       Scholar         Aylburton
Thomas Richards       5                          Aylburton
Robert Richards         2                          Lydney
Oliver Richards         1m                         Lydney

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the Ledding family, but as Ester was only
about 19 in 1851, it seems likely that she wasn't married by then.

I also had a look on the International Genealogical Index. It shows that Oliver
Richards was christened on 14th Oct 1810 in Alvington. He was the son of Oliver
and Ann and had a brother, Joseph, who was christened on 20th Dec 1807, again
in Alvington.

Anyway, hope this helps!

No Worries Rachel...I have a problem with this name Ledding. I can find not a soul with this name in either 41 or 51 Gloss so I checked 61 trying to decide if not Ledding then what. Had a few ideas but they failed also. Next I tried for an Ester in 51 in Colford and none to fit so off I went to Aylburton and again no Ester Best bet being Esther Evans 21 b Coleford. Ill be back Im looking into another avenue at mo  Wink Kris

OK Rachel I believe the name may have been wrongly enumerated.   Wink When I check 71 these children are not with the family so I travelled further and came upon this.... I thought may be Liddington when I came upon

LIDDINGTON Louisa J Niece (Uncle Abraham Isaac-in Iron Acton) 19 Unm b Aylburton General Servant

Then again There are other Liddingtons in the street so So maybe Im dreaming  Undecided

next I looked for George and again if its him age 2 years our also Geo Littleton an 18 year old Iron Miner Boarder b Aylburton living  in Newland.

Finally though there are numerous Liddingtons in Aylburton in 51 there are no Littletons.......Kris  Huh

Glad to have helped Rachel. Now all you have to do is work out what the name should be...LOL....I did't take any notice of Robert as I was only looking for George...So pleased you have had a bit of luck with it...All the best...Kris  Cheesy
